I met my husband of 2 years some 10 years back. We were silly children back then. Amidst everything we were so uncertain of, one thing was certain from day 1: we would end up together. It was really brilliant the way our hearts leapt up at the thought of each other when the question was of a forever. We grew up together, laughed, loved, fought through it all. We knew everything and anything there was to know about each other; he knew how to get to me and I knew I could never bar him out my heart when he wanted. He is the best thing that has ever happened to me. And I love, absolutely love when he tells me what a great friend I am to him. That's, like, better than being just a wife.

As children we see love as something so simple. Your heart is so clear it responds to every thing that has the tenderness to touch it. It's absolutely amazing the way children can see a wisdom you're no longer capable of as a grown up; what with all your fuzzy logics about the way this world works and how things should be. I'm happy to know that the man I married was someone my heart chose when it was crystal clear. My vision was not blurred with practicality and judgemental notions one tends to absorb. I knew no malice, no greed, no remorse. My heart knw what it wanted without anything pulling me off the gravity of it. I'm glad to be here, to know what innocent love is and to be able to spread it in my own little way. And I'm thankful for the man who reminds me every day that we are among the very lucky few who get to share something as pure as this.

I've always lived in a protected shell, and ended up being conned in the very place I called home. My heart leaps outward and my eyes search elsewhere. The challenges only make you stronger, the set backs make you better and a loved one's treachery only makes you a better fighter. So go find yourself. Ah, this map just makes my heart swoon with delight. Just look at this huge space filled with opportunities and swarming with wonderful, wonderful, wonderful people! Look at all the places you can go sight seeing to, all the people you can meet and so much knowledge still left for you to absorb. Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to 2012. Let this year leave you with a better, braver, happier person. Happiness is not around you, it's inside you; why are you straying elsewhere? I'm on a roller coaster ride. He must possess an eye for the special, he must feel emotions in a new paradigm to be able to make out the best in them for all the world to see. His words should be easy, yet the picture he creates should break the barriers of what and how words can impact. A write should be anything but normal; and that is why he is a complete package. Special, brilliant, sensitive; he touches your heart not every one can.

After much thinking, I have finally settled for the theme of my debut book. I love writing short stories and the part I enjoy the most in them is making seemingly small moments as monumental as they really are sometimes. If you get time to read any of them, please take out a minute or two and leave a comment for any feedback you may have, any area you think needs improvement. So, it's like I was putting off writing this first book that I had so much heart into because I wanted to have the perfect person to share it with. No time wasting trying to decide who would be the perfect one to name on my dedications page. This dream is mine to create, and my parents to have and enjoy, wholly. Life waits for no one, then what am I waiting for? I'm a go getter now and I love the new me! God willing, you're soon going to know me by my soon-to-be hard cover book in your favorite book store!

I'm very tight on schedule these days with a full time job that takes so much of time but which I absolutely love. These unfinished stories want you to cradle them in your arms once more, to soothe them, deal with all their loose ends and complete them. How desperately you want to give in to all this subtle imploring and play the woman, the ever-nurturing mother. But what you don't know is that they want to seep into your system. That's is the only chance they have for survival. Do not let these abandoned tales get to you. They are like slow poison. Run far, far away.

I have a confession to make. I've had lots of absurd crushes and one of them was Aladdin and I was jealous sour of Jasmine. I mean, who could miss that dashing smile Aladdin had? Or the way he would brush his fingers through his hair when he wanted to act smart. The boy who looked cute in tatters became the handsomest guy on screen when Genie transformed him into Prince Ali Ababwa.

I just felt like sharing this photo with you lovely girls tonight. Don't we all have so many childhood memories associated with Disney classics? Aladdin still manages to be on the top! They are like a treasure trove of lessons and ideals for life Stand up for yourself; Find your place in the sun; The good always wins over the bad; You're beautiful just about as much you are at your heart; Beauty is skin deep, ugliness isn't; THERE IS MAGIC, only if you believe; HOLD ON TO FAITH; A happily-ever-after; so much more! No Place Left In Heaven

How would you feel if you opened your eyes to see your body lying on the floor and a horrifying realization dawns upon you that you are so-very-dead and TRAPPED!? Yikes! You see all the people you care about going about their daily chores, they have moved on, life has moved on, it's only you who is stuck at a dot where there is no touch, no sound, no sense of time and space. You are just one invisible lot of immense cold. And with time, you start growing hands and arms, a head hovering in thin air but that's all the reflection you can get off the full length bedroom mirror. Freaky? Totally!

I'm reading Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger, inspired by her International bestseller, The Time Traveler's Wife. The above lines are from one of the characters in Her Fearful Symmetry. The Time Traveler's Wife was a splendid book. It spoke to me on different levels, but mainly on the level only women can connect. Ah I think I'm gonna go and watch the movie finally. Never was able to have the courage of seeing the movie, the book was just too perfect for me. Tonight shall be it! I need a dose of mushiness and romance tonight because I just dread the thought of a Monday and a loooong week ahead. (In case any of my bosses are reading this, I love my work! Completely!!)

My Lonely City

A lonely city this is. I watch the sun go down with my deep brown eyes. It gives off shadows that spread like dark winged angels on my city that shines as a diamond by the radiant sun. I watch. The tall buildings. I think of the people living in each of them. People with budding hearts, hearts the beat, hearts that resonate with love. One of those hearts belong to me, that darling, silent, unknown heart that I have known for all time.

A lonely city this is. I watch scores and scores of people, and yet, sometimes it seems like a barren, deserted place. A lonely car I see far off, headed towards an unknown destination. An unknown journey. Take me with you, silent rider, and may be in the midst of not knowing, I'll strip off the last layer of camouflage that suffocates my skin, bare myself to you, in the hopes that you will know me for all my ugliness, for all my weaknesses, for all my sorrow.

A lonely city this is. Let's leave its quiet loneliness behind and drive away to our new mysterious stopping point. I want to lose my silence in yours. Tell me all your sorrows and may be, just may be, you can be convinced that I am what your dying heart needs. Your faint heart beat needs two warm hands to hold it and keep it from fading. Let those hands be mine. Then may be, you won't have to leave my lonely city by nightfall like this. May be , the loneliness won't intimidate you any longer, and may be you'll stay. For me.

I used to collect these comic strips when I was young and paste them all in a diary, meaning it to be a gift for my future husband. I'm feeling so nostalgic right now. I still have that diary with me. I took it out and had a good look at it once more. It was soothing because it reminded me that a sincere love is always returned and I will soon have my share of it too :)

Capturing Perfection

I've known nothing but perfect love. It's just the way I'm built. And no matter how crazy or weird it gets, things eventually fall into place. Building software systems and testing them, I found no matter how hard we try, we cannot make a system to the perfection of a cent-percent-brilliance. But the system made by the Almighty is perfect in every sense of the way. Everything balances out its opposite. And everything, absolutely everything is made to fit into the larger picture.

I have given up being a control freak a long time back and I was amazed to see how relieving it was. Tell yourself that some things are bound to happen while some things are just not meant to be. You can try, and all your struggle can either bring fruit or go down the drain. It hurts, some times it goes way more than just a four letter word h-u-r-t. But leave it. Shush. Leave it. Let go. Open your hands and give your troubles over in God's safe hands. Let Him take care of them for you. Relieve yourself of the worry, the control-it-syndrome. Stay human.

So, like I said, I believe there's a perfect love indeed, even when half the population of the planet complains about how unfair life is. There is never a single day I don't find something to bring me a smile. And yes, there isn't a single night that goes dreamless. Pain, hurt, sorrow, gloom, poverty, tyranny exists because there is happiness, love, kindness, purity, honesty, faith, hope, tolerance and compassion to contrast to that. Without this contrast, could you tell the difference?

Perfect love exists. Seize it!

I still love life for every unexpected thing that it throws at people. I don't think anything can tire me from the wonder of it. It wasn't completely a joy ride; I had my share of troubles and tears. But the beauty of it all becomes all the more obvious when amidst all the chaos, there is always a tiny window that lets in sunshine.

Today, I'm happy to be the imperfect person I am. I try to be a better person that yesterday, but I would never want to be perfect. Imperfections is what makes us unique in a human sort of way. I'm young, I'm careless, I'm free, I'm anything but perfect and that is exactly how I will make the best of what I have before me now.

A Story Of Survival

It was a blissful weekend; a lot of soul searching, a lot of soulful music, heart to heart talk with some of my old friends, knowing how they have been doing all the while we were disconnected, catching up, the sorts. I'm happy I linked up with them once more. I am discovering myself all over again, and I'm discovering who my real friends are and who love me for me and who just don't. I'm just taking each day as it comes. I know it will be fine. God will heal me.

But you know what? Amidst all thoughts of yourself, you realize there are so many less fortunate people than you. Your own sorrow seems small in front of them. I want to open my heart and let this tell me I still have so much to be thankful for.

Happily Ever After Starts Here - Fantastic Friday

Welcome to this week's edition of Fantastic Friday, where we talk about happiness and inspiration and everything that goes in between!

What was that one fairy tale you solemnly believed in as a girl?

Once upon a time there was a little girl who had a bottle full of love. She loved it so dearly, she held it close to her always. The bottle shone out with affection to anyone who would look at it. Greedy as she was, she never dared to open it and hence, missed out on all the magic of it. The label at the back said, "Learn to share, and when you do, open this bottle, it's meant for two; it will bring you joy, and cast away all pain, when you find your happiness, in someone else's gain..."

A woman I know dreamed day and night of a knight in shining armor. Her imagination showed her a gallant hero like figure who would save her from the clutches of a dreadful evil and take her to his far off kingdom where they would live happily ever after. When love came, it wasn't a knight in shining armor; what mattered was kindness, compassion, trust and a little manly ardor!

Grandma and Grandpa were an awesome couple. They often ended up mixing up and drinking tea from each other cups. They finished each other's sentences and I never failed to absorb the love they so generously radiated. When grandma grew fatally ill, grandpa never let her be sad. "Why should she be sad when we have had an ocean of happiness between us?" When grandma closed her eyes, she was smiling back to grandpa over a forgotten joke. Romeo and Juliet died in love, But grandpa and grandma were far better, who grew old together!

To the bride, whose husband never loved her enough. You gave someone your life, your time, your devotion, all so willingly. You thought marrying someone meant having them too. It hurts, I know, hurts every time you watch him sleep indifferently. Don't cry, Darling Bride. Every tear you shed takes the form of a tiny pearl somewhere. Your fairy tale does not end here. All it needs is a little faith and a warm heart to place that faith. Your fairy tale hasn't begun but it soon will be.

We all make mistakes. Eve's apple. Same story over and over. Every thing falls into place when it is all meant to be. Fairy tales are written in Heaven!

It was bad, heart breaking and you feel like your tears will never stop. Little Girl, cry if you want. But no more tears tomorrow. Tomorrow is a new day; leave the past here in the now and close the book. Open a new one, a book with empty pages and fill them words of hope and happiness and love. Design it with colours. Adorn it with lessons of your past. Someday, someone might open your book, and fall in love with all that you have to give the world. Dance once more, smile from the heart, let it fill your eyes with shine. Let every love ballad warm your soul and let it fill you with hope, because happily ever after is soon to be!

Thursdays bring the same nostalgic feelings as Octobers do. Kinda like, take me back in time when Thursday used to be the last working day of the week and Friday and Saturday were holidays. That makes Sunday as the first day of the week. We spent the day going out to my aunt's every Thursday and watching an old, crazy movie with my cousins. What am I missing about that time? I'm not sure. But the thing I miss most about my childhood was the eagerness to grow up and share what I had to give. Every second of my childhood still within reach of my recall has somehow been tied with the one person that I waited to meet and did meet only later, to be unsure of any feeling towards it.

Working since 7am, the crazy routine is taking its toll on me but at least it gives me no time to go into another train of thoughts. But Thursdays, ah, they are something I so dearly love. That's all for now, need to rush once more.

Woh Humsafar Thhaa - Sufi Music: Tunes I Like Tuesday

Just today I was talking to my friend about how my Tunes I Like Tuesday series were getting boring but I came across a song I just had to share! This one is a soulful number, originally sung by Abida Parveen, one of the finest Sufi vocalists of the modern era. This song completely takes you to a new level and the remake is equally enjoyable. Currently airing as the OST for a famous Pakistani TV Series Humsafar, the ghazal is making waves amongst the youth once more, with all the modern music, drums and guitars they enjoy. And yet, many are turning back to the original version for the immense grace of it.

Women are to be treated as queens. Any man is not a man till he understands and accepts that his respect is due to all the women around him, especially when it comes to his wife.

A wife is every thing from your best friend to your life partner, but make sure you give her the due position and respect she deserves. First and foremost of her rights is love and respect, without condition.

Love her, accept her, help her into her new life with you, and she will surprise you with the way she loves you back. Love her unconditionally, for she leaves her family, friends and her whole life and steps into yours to start a new one, just with you. Do not underestimate any sacrifice she makes for you.

Love her when she sips on your coffee or tea. She only wants to make sure it tastes just right for you.

Love her when she "pushes" you to pray. She wants to be with you in Jannah (Paradise).

Love her when she asks you to play with the kids. She did not "make" them on her own.

Love her when she is jealous. Out of all the men she can have, she chose you.

Love her when she has annoying little habits that drives you nuts. You have them too.

Love her when her cooking is bad. She tries.

Love her when she asks if she looks fat. Your opinion counts, so tell her she's beautiful.

Love her when she looks beautiful. She's yours so appreciate her.

Love her when she spends hours to get ready. She only wants to look her best for you.

Love her when she cries for absolutely nothing. Don't ask, just tell her its going to be okay.

Love her when she suffers from PMS. Buy chocolate, rub her feet and back and just chat to her (trust me this works!)

Love her when whatever you do is not pleasing her. It happens to every one once in a while and hers will pass too.

Love her when she tells you how to drive. She only wants you to be safe.

Love her simply because she is yours. You don't need any other reason more special than that!

Where Are You My Baby?

My darling nephew just came for a visit. He's an adorable 1 year old plus 2 months. Just tonight, I was telling his mother how different I felt for him. Something in that baby keeps pulling me towards him with sheer love. He has this incredibly innocent pair of eyes and the softness in them just makes me want to cradle him in my arms and kiss and hug and play with him for as long as I can. His parents have been my favorite couple from the day they got married and now I can't thank them enough for giving me such a beautiful nephew that brings me so much joy! He makes me forget my woes and fills me up with a new kind of love.

I've never felt this way about kids. True I always loved babies but my nephew brings out a feeling in me so much more strongly. Is it because at one time I desperately wanted a baby of my own? Or because so many times, I dreamed my baby boy smiling happily in my arms? Ignoring that wish doesn't stay suppressed for long, does it? Once the longing crosses her, a woman feels it every time she sees an innocent babe smiling back at her because she is always meant to be a mother. I've never talked about this side of me; but it must be said, to celebrate one more wonder and magic only meant for a woman. Only the heart of a woman can contain such an immense amount of love. And while I'm at it, let me call out to mine; Where are you my Baby? Mama's waiting!

How Wordless Can It Get?

It's that time of year week we play Wordless Wednesday. But how wordless can I be?

And so I finally told him to leave and never come back. Not that he ever tried to stay. Then why was saying it out loud such a difficult thing? Because it takes courage to speak the truth. "We can't go on. Please leave." I couldn't shout or curse or scream even then. Night after night I've grown insomniac with the bottomless pit of anger growing inside me like a maniac. But in the end, I chose to stay wordless. Said enough. Done enough. Sometimes silence is the best form of expression. The most innocent part of me loved him in the most innocent way. I couldn't set that child to pain by saying things I could never take back or apologize for, when realized the pain they could have caused.

I set you free because I want to set myself free.

Words couldn't convince us of each other's love. From now on, let's just stay wordless about it.

Life Is Good

life is good!

I can't have everything my way. What I can do is make the most of what I have with me. And, to be honest, my life's good. I've got the perfect family who won't let me fall. I've got a book supply that can last for over a month if all I were to do 24/7 was read. Winters are so here, and the best way to celebrate them is with late night apple pies and creamy coffees. Late night fast food home deliveries and movies every weekend, sleeping at the brink of dawn. If you're thinking, yes, I'm a foodie!

Life is good even when you've got no one to share it with, because it's all about how you look at it. You've got a wonderful family to share it! Not every one has a family so hold there hands, give them a warm smile and when they get down, tell them it's going to be just fine, because YOU are there for them.

Life can be good when you've got a demanding job that grinds you 5 days a week. Being busy keep us workaholics happy. And in this age, who isn't a workaholic? Being busy lets you appreciate your leisure time more generously. After a long day of work, seeing a loved one smile at you is so refreshing! You realize though things in the outside world change at an insane speed, some things never change. Things like love and family.

Life's good when you've got an old book in your hands and tea at your disposal. Look out the window and see Lahore's fog on a cold December morning and snuggle closer to the heater. Oh I can hardly wait!

Life is good even when you've got no car. Walk and meditate, see the things around you. Ponder. How often do you that? Welcome to reality. And no, reality doesn't always mean something horrible. It's much better than that!

There is something good about having a limited budget. You get to search, choose, search again and try to choose again for the best thing you can get within your budget. Why are there so many stories about the richie riches who were anything but happy?

Life's good when you hear a love song and it makes you smile. It makes you want to get up and dance. Dance, baby dance. Life is good!

Life is good when you receive a forgotten letter the old style, from an old friend who lives half way across the world but still remembers you. There is something so nostalgic about traditional letters and the envelopes stamped with the By Air Mail text.

Life is good for so many countless reasons. We just have to be appreciative enough and open ourselves to what it has to offer. Every one has their share of troubles, but that doesn't make it any less beautiful. I wish you a wonderful life!

Journal Therapy: Writing as Medicine for the Soul!

It took a surprise email from an ex-boyfriend to awaken me to the fact that writing is like free therapy. It’s cathartic. It’s emotionally healing.

This ex-boyfriend from 7 years ago contacted me out of the blue. He knew I was married, he knew we would likely never see each other again, and he knew my life had changed in many wonderful ways since we had split. And thankfully, he didn’t care!

We struck up a sort of pen pal relationship (the last pen pal I had besides him was in fifth grade, but no matter) that we continue to this day, albeit less frequently than at first. I found myself pouring out the everyday happenings of my life to him in ridiculous detail, micro-analyzing a new policy at the office or whining about the drudgery of being an honest-to-goodness adult with a mortgage and a car payment. In short, I found myself using our emails as a journal, as a venue for expressing myself and analyzing the ups and downs of my life.

Writing is like Free Therapy!

As it turns out, that stress relief and mental clarity I felt in writing down my thoughts was not a fluke. Psychotherapists working with depressed individuals even use writing and poetry therapy as a form of “expressive therapy”. Basically, writing out your thoughts and feelings and taking the time to analyze them on paper puts words and tangibility to your emotions, helping you work through them just like they would in talk therapy, music or art therapy, or dance and drama therapy.

Even better, people suffering from anxiety, stress, addiction, abuse, eating disorders, low self-esteem, and a host of other difficulties can find similar release and healing by expressing themselves through the written word.

What is it about writing that heals the soul? Just like in other forms of creative therapy, writing helps us work through our emotions, putting a name to our pain, so to speak. Working through your issues by writing out words to express your thoughts helps you identify, understand, and even conquer whatever troubles you are facing – from minor setbacks to serious roadblocks. Psychologists believe that using your creativity to process your thoughts and feelings can help you keep a healthy handle on life, which is why writing poetry, fiction, music, personal reflections, and even free-form “stream of consciousness” journaling can be so effective for promoting good mental and emotional health.

Although it was a surprise when my ex struck up a new written relationship, I am grateful that he did. I know now that our back-and-forth discussions are not just catching up or staying in touch. I can acknowledge that writing to him is just as important for my own well-being as it is for maintaining a friendly relationship. And he has doubtless picked up on my tendency to use our emails as a mini therapy session! The way I see it, though, no matter what form of writing I am doing, I am completing a form of self-expression that is good for me.

Even if I didn’t keep up contact with my ex from summers past, I believe I have been forever converted to a writer for my own sake. Maybe somewhere down the line I will prefer penning poems to emailing my ex, or keeping a paper journal to posting on my blog, but at the moment I am quite content to get the joy I need from Gmail and WordPress! At least for now, I know that every time I press the “send” button on an email full of my written triumphs, failures, jokes, and tears, I am also clicking the “reset” button on my personal stress meter.

So the next time you reach for your pen or start typing away on your personal blog, take pride in the fact that not only are you taking a stab at writing that “perfect line”, but you are also writing your way to a healthier you!

Empty (2011) Movie Review: Why You Shouldn't Watch This Movie

I watched the movie Empty last night, released just this year. Rated poorly, no doubt, I have little reason to talk about it.

The IMDB website rates it a poor 4.1 out of 10 which was what was expected from an unknown cast, an out of the place Disney-like background music and a below average acting. The story revolves around a young couple stuck in the middle of nowhere while a strange gas shortage hits the entire United States that could last for an unknown period of time.

What makes me dislike it so much when there are so many other below average movies out there? The makes of this movie have employed a very cheap trick to have it talked about and get famous the notorious way. At one of the places in the movie where the hero and the heroine quarrel over how and why the gas shortage hit in the first place, the guy screams off names of a few countries in full hatred, something like, "Who knows why this hit us, may be it's some government shit, may be its the f**king Middle East, some f**king Pakistan or Afghanistan trying to cut off our supplies till their demands are met!!" WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS THAT? (disclaimer: quoting the movie dialogues from memory, so word placement can be different, just word placements)

Is it just how these cheap, low budget movies end up being made in order to gain cheap popularity the easy way? Call names to some big countries or big religious groups, hurt the sentiments of a couple of billion people and when they start complaining about it, you get cheap popularity! Seriously, the box office budget for this movie is a mere $10,000 for an 82 minute movie. That explains the horrible story line and the cast.

A complete waste of time Mr. Director and Mr. Writers, I do hope you're reading this!

To the readers: I know the industry is filled with countless movies saying all sorts of bad things about any country or religion or group you can think of. The question is why we do it? "Freedom of speech" is just a fancy name to put up for something downright unethical by a group of hypocrites who have nothing but menace on their minds.

Where Has Meqsi Been?

Hello all you wonderful people!

This place has been idle from last weekend and for those of you who have been coming in to check up on me and dropping in emails, thank you so much for the concern. It's been busy these last few days, including the Muslim festival of Eid ul-Adha. I have consistently stared at the Compose New Post screen every night but failed to come up with something to write. This isn't really a writer's block; it's one of those times when you've got so much running through your heard that it gets difficult picking up a single (cheerful) thought to share. My mind has been up and running on maximum capacity, to the point of leaving me absolutely incapable of jotting down anything. I want then every time you come here, you leave with a smile. And when that can't be managed justifiably, I just want to stick around to keeping it idle.

I just got a call from an aunt telling me she just discovered this place and that she read my something-something story that I wrote some 2 years back. It was about a brother and his little sister, Meenu, who were poor and probably missed out on so much that makes up our every day lives. But they were HAPPY. Happy like, really really happy and content with what they had. It's one of my fave short stories, and you can check it out {HERE}. I loved writing stories back then and I still do, but right now, I find it hard to sit and get myself in the mood of the scene. You can check up my old short stories on my old blog here. How Much Time?

It took some time for my eyes to focus when I opened them. I had been hearing them speak but didn’t have the courage, yet, to look around. My body was numb and cold; so much the better. Once the pain starts kicking in, you can’t even breathe and knowing the hollowness so physically is excruciating. With each donation I push myself closer to a sad death; in the end it all balances out. A life for a life. My kidney or limbs or eyes or even the heart goes out to anyone who needs them. We die, but we die happy. We die with this overwhelming sense of contentment that we live on somehow in other people, bringing them health and happiness and joy. We die serving a society who may never acknowledge our service to it until it’s too late to come and drop in a note of gratitude. That doesn’t bother us because we work for the greater good. We are found young and helpless from dingy allies and dirty corners, left by people who obviously found nothing good in us and then we spend a whole lifetime correcting their wrong decision. It comes with price, but then, what doesn’t?

I heard the doctors speak while my eyes were closed and ears listened. The man told the woman how one of “these people” couldn’t make it, how he just stopped breathing. There was too much blood and he couldn’t do anything. I heard the woman gasp and say it was meant to be. A tear flows down my eye as I hear them take his name. That name once brought light to my eyes and caused my heart to skip a beat in its fluttery state of infatuation. We couldn’t afford love because we were young and we wanted to live while we could. Who knew how much time we had? Why cause yourself more trouble by holding hands and making promises like we could swear each other forever? Back then it was fun, just plain fun and hiding from the reality of it was only wise. In the end, they can’t save us. Sometimes they don’t save us. They know one way or the other we will end up this way; donating organs for the greater good of humanity till we lost something vital to our life, discarded as useless sometimes. It’s a chance we take each time, a chance for life each time.

Dear Once Upon A Forever,

You always used to ask me what I wanted for my birthday and I always told you, anything which you choose for me. I wanted something you handpicked, something that held your thoughts for me. It's my birthday again and this year I hope it never comes if it's going to be without that question from you, what do you want for your birthday. Remember what I wrote in my diary a few years back on a certain 1st October date? The one with a forceful use of Urdu in an attempt to improve it: "October shoro hote hi mere dil mein hal chal shoro ho jati hai.." It was crap, total crap, and you used to embarrass me silly by repeating those lines every time the mention of that diary came up. And while I turned red, you always had a good laugh; I secretly like being able to make you laugh. Still I hid it well, feared if it ever came into your hands you'll memorize every word of it and tease me with it for life. Ah, for life. It was a possible notion just a little time back. It's exactly 6 days and the hal chal feeling has not hit me yet. Guess the entire feeling was all because of you after all.

I want you to come and ask me what I want for my birthday and this year, I want to answer that question by saying that I want you and only you. Just tell me I'm having you and nothing you and I say or do to each other will change that fact, now or ever again. Gift wrap yourself in a red ribbon and take me out for dinner on my day. I want to end that day with our favorite apple pie. And please play "Teenage Dream" on full base while we do. That song really gets me high, gets "us" high.

I'm waiting. Guess I always will.

1. Don't be all over us. We like a little challenge every once in a while. If you make yourself look too available, you end up looking desperate. We like the courting game to linger on a bit before we settle down in a romantic routine.

2. One of the best ways to make up to us is to tell us how beautiful we are and how we fill your otherwise boring life with colors. Chics dig compliments! ;)

3. You don't have to buy us expensive gifts. We love the little things far better than the big stuff that screams pompousness after a while. Sometimes, it's the tiniest thing that has us falling heads over heels in love with you.

4. We are perfect homemakers. We're born to do that sometime down the line. And though we always seem to have a problem with how you work in the kitchen, sitting in front of the television leaving it all up to us isn't the solution either. Okay go ahead and watch the tele, but be sure to stay tuned to all the efforts we put in for you in the kitchen. It keeps us happy and makes us want to do better for you.

9. We think you're sexy when you're shaving, fixing things, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, driving, and when you're holding a baby. We love it when you're sweaty. Gives us all sorts of nasty thoughts!

10. We want to hear "I love you" as often as we can but make sure you mean it when you say it. When you don't mean it, it shows and nothing hurts more than an empty confession of love.

11. We love it when you hold our hands in public. It's something all of us girls secretly drool about. We want to know you're possessive about us and we want it to show too! Hold our hands, pass a comment in our ear, make us laugh to a joke that's just meant for us both. We want you to be very much aware of our presence even in public, and we want you to show me off to the world like your pretty diamond!

12. Trust us and let us trust you. It's better to leave us than to cheat. Don't lie. It's better to hurt us with the truth than to comfort us with a lie. Yes, we mean it.

13. And most importantly, respect us and respect our individuality. Respect our principles, respect our dreams and respect our body. Don't look at us as a mere body but look at us with a person full of strengths and weakness just like yourself. If you respect us as a woman of substance, you will get a woman of substance back. Drenched Love

Her heart broke with a louder shatter this time. She dared not make a sound. Shhh... Be silent, and maybe no will notice...

He offered to help her. She stared at him, trying to see if he could pick up those pieces and mend them again. Can he? How I wish you could help, she thought. And then, just for a split second, she found herself in a weak moment. She kept staring at him, trying to find something in him she once believed in as a religion. Why was he not looking at her in the eye? He couldn't. Was he ever such a coward? She suddenly didn't know him anymore. Her gaze, with those silent, numerous questions, that helplessness would be too much for him, maybe. Maybe her eyes would haunt him. He didn't want that. He couldn't help it.

Silently, she walked away and out of the room where the air vibrated with this complication that now held her life at stake. She did not want to look back. No. She didn't have the courage to see that man change. It was raining heavily and she was drenched instantly. She couldn't have cared any less now. Once upon a magical time, he held her world together from falling apart. Once, his deep voice had resonated in her dreams, ridding her of fearful, sleepless nights. His eyes had been loving; his smile had been warm and his arms had been protective. And rains... they were something they both adored, playing for hours in the rain with not a care of the world around them. They were always so absorbed, always so much fond of each other, that the whole world would fade into the background. She stopped thinking. She had to. She was going crazy. Today the man she was leaving behind was someone else. His voice was distant, his arms no longer embraced her, his eyes did not meet hers anymore. Something was amiss; and today, despite being a few inches from each other, they were worlds apart.

The world hadn't matter once upon an enchanting moment, when the days were sunny and the nights twinkled. No one had mattered more than him when those days and nights had been filled with his innocent tokens of affection. And she was very much in love. They say love hurts. Does it? She couldn't believe. He loved her too deeply.

But today, the man she didn't want to look back at, was definitely someone else. This had to be. I don't know where he is anymore! He never went away... he would never leave me. This is just someone else in his skin. He can never hurt me.. no he cannot. A tear fell down her cheek. How can they say he never cared? What do they know? How can they possibly know how much those little things meant? Do I need to hear it from them? He was my faith in people again and if mere mortals could be worshipped... had it been anyone else but him? No!! They don't know... They don't know how I cherish those memories... those smiles he left with me... that sense of strength he gifted me.. they don't know... no... they don't... he...

She broke down in terrible sobs. The sky seemed to weep with her.

... he's still here with me, in my heart... People stay with you when they die, don't they? He's just lost somewhere from where he cannot return... Does that mean he deserves to be hated by me? No... How can I hate him... how... can... She was crying bitterly. How can I possibly...? She started choking. She had to get a grip on herself. I can't go on like this. She, now, sat on the edge of a foot path and took deep breaths, trying in vain to soothe herself. Slowly and gradually she composed herself.

Today, that man she left behind didn't matter. She knew wherever he was, he still loved her. How couldn't he? And this was just a stranger in his skin.

And with these thoughts, she sat on that foot path and decided to bathe in heaven's waters. Finally, it felt as if something had been left loose in her. The chains that seemed to bind her had faded. She smiled after a long time. She could feel him. He was around... inside her.
